Back in the Studio

So Marshall was back in the studio last week to record the rest of his cd. Here he is holding John Wilds photo with Russell Jackson (standup bass), Sherman Doucette (harmonica). The sessions went great and they got some amazing tracks down.

Pentax
Marshall gave me a fantastic early birthday gift! Thank you Sweetie! It's a Pentax *istDS digital SLR camera. It's an amazing camera - going to bring it to Blueberry Bluegrass Fest to try it out. I will be the one soaking up the tunes while reading a manual and taking lots of pictures :)

Gogoi is very stressed not only does he not like getting his picture taken, he is watching out for magpies that might swoop down and attack. Very stressful for him.
The camera has the option to be fully automatic or fully manual. I took a photography course years ago but have always relied on the automatic to take care of everything. But I would like to get into it and take better pictures.
This is what I am reading this evening: A Short Course in Using Your Digital Camera

Ninth wedding anniversary

Tomorrow is our 9th wedding anniversary. So glad that Marshall said yes when I proposed to him on Sadie Hawkins day at the Raindow Bistro in Ottawa. It took a couple of Jack Daniels and listening to some blues (I think Suzie Vinnick was playing) for me to get my nerve up. But it was one of the best things that I have ever done.

WEM
At the Blues on Whyte jam yesterday, Marshall managed to break off one of his acrylic nails - guess it went flying into the crowd. Nobody was hurt but some fiery blues was played.
So this morning we went to West Edmonton Mall (WEM) to get his nails done. We rarely go there cause it is such a zoo. Usually only when friends and family come to town - it really is a huge place.

The smell in the nails place is gross - a mix of toxic chemicals - I last about 5 seconds before I leave. There is a neat little Koi pond so I sat there and waited.

We walked around a bit and saw the mechanized dragon in the movie theatre and walked by the lifesize replica of one of Christopher Columbus' ships. Had a nice lunch on Bourbon Street and came home.

MLB Road Trip
It's been waaaay too long since M went on a road trip. He's off to Calgary to play some blues. I am kicking back with a cup of coffee and popping in a DVD that came in the mail this week: Rufus Reid - The Evolving Bassist |

Sidetrack Marquee
Sidetrack Marquee On Thursday morning Sam, Cheryl-Ann and Marshall left early to head off to the A-Channel's Big Breakfast. My Mom and I made some breakfast in our pjs and turned the TV on. Marshall sounded great playing Rooster Blues on his National Steel guitar (Rosalita:). Didn't get a chance to tape it so if anyone has a copy let me know! |

Date at Khazana's
| M and I have decided to take some time every couple of weeks and go on a dinner date. We've both been so busy and have both been feeling disconnected. So this week we went to Khazana's which is a Tandoori restaurant downtown.
I had been there previously for the amazing lunch buffet which is great and offers a wonderful selection of curries and dhal and fresh Naan bread. But in the evening the restaurant transforms into this beautiful cozy place with a couple of fireplaces. We sat a table right beside one of the fires and with a view to the chef at the Tandoor oven making naan.
We started with different chutneys and papadum and a glass of wine each - I had a sauvignon blanc and M had a glass of merlot. It was great to unwind and have time to chat and reconnect. The atmosphere is great and very intimate. We ordered some butter chicken, dhal and a plate of barbequed vegetables and paneer. And of course naan - which was the fluffiest, melt in your mouth naan that I have ever tasted. Delicious and highly recommended! Know of an Edmonton restaurant we should try? |

MLB photo
| Here's a cool photo taken from Marshall's gig last week at the Sidetrack. It was taken by Tammy Drummer who is a photography student. Marshall borrowed the Oilers hat from a guy in the audience, when he went to return it, the guy didn't want it back cause it was too sweaty... Marshall was working it - playing music is his type of exercise. He just needs some pretty young thing to bring fresh-scented towels (a la Koko Taylor) between songs so she can wipe his brow.

Portraits
Tonight we are getting our portrait done. Last September we went to a silent auction and bid on a portrait session with a local photographer and won the bid.
We've been procrastinating (it was due in March 2003). So in June, I booked a session for today. The fall is Marshall's favourite time of year and also when we met. I heard of a place in town that has maple trees (just like Ontario) - I haven't had a chance to drive by but I am hoping the trees are starting to turn red. So we'll have it done tonight outside. I have never done this kind of thing before - except I guess our wedding photos which were very casual - a friend did it in the back yard kind of thing.
Should be good and a nice keepsake for when we are old and looking back at the "good old days". Actually I am hoping that I haven't hit the good old days yet - have I peaked - what a crazy thought.

We went to Thorton Court patio to celebrate - it has the best view of the river valley.

Rosalita
|
After 30 years of dreaming, 3 months of intensive research and 4 months of waiting for it to be built, Marshall got a National guitar. We're calling it Rosalita - it has a pretty wild rose engraving.
Here are some sound bytes:
