Gaden Samten Ling Annual Tibetan Bazaar
Marshall and I went exploring on Sunday to the Annual Tibetan Bazaar presented by Gaden Samten Ling Tibetan Buddhist Meditation Society.
Here are some photos of the dancers that were performing.

The hall was packed with Tibetan crafts, jewellery, art, clothing and books and the home cooked Tibetan food smelled delicious. Bumped into Nikki and Brock who I had previously met this summer at Shady Grove - another surprising bluegrass/buddhist connection. They are quite involved with Gaden Samten Ling and invited us to one of the Tuesday evening meditations. They also invited us to the Fundraising Dinner and Silent Auction on November 5, 2005. Check their website for more details.

Awakening Within
I went to the Grand Opening of a new yoga studio today called Awakening Within. I feel so relaxed - they were offering free classes - I forgot how mellow Hatha yoga can make you feel. Last week I signed up for lunch hour yoga classes there. It is within walking distance of where I work so it's convenient. Classes start September 26th so if you work downtown and are looking for 45-minute yoga classes during lunch then this might work for you. They also have Friday evening drop in classes for $6.

I also enjoyed a 10-minute seated massage. They offer massages by the minute during lunch hours as well. Good for a quick blissful session after slumping in front of a computer for too long.

Clarence Gatemouth Brown
I am sitting around listening to a recording of Clarence Gatemouth Brown Live at the 8x10 Club, Baltimore MD (recorded 2000-06-09). I downloaded it from www.dimeadozen.org.
Thinking about when I saw him at The Palms in Davis, CA. He was so cool and smart with his red shirt, black hat and smoking his pipe playing his guitar and fiddle. He was so....Him! A rock-solid-no-excuses-here-I-am original. And so ecclectic. He played so many types of music but my personal favourite was his fiddle playing.
Gatemouth Brown passed away September 10, 2005, in Orange, Texas.

The River
Found in my inbox from the lovely and clever Sheila:
Three men were hiking through a forest when they came upon a large,
raging violent river.
Needing to get on the other side, the first man prayed, "God, please
give me the strength to cross the river."
Poof!
God gave him big arms and strong legs and he was able to swim across
in about 2 hours, having almost drowned twice.
After witnessing that, the second man prayed, "God, please give me
strength and the tools to cross the river."
Poof!
God gave him a rowboat, strong arms and strong legs and he as able
to row across in about an hour after almost capsizing once.
Seeing what happened to the first two men, the third man
prayed,"God, please give me the strength, the tools and the intelligence to cross this river."
Poof!
He was turned into a woman. She checked the map, hiked one hundred
yards up stream and walked across the bridge.

Is The Grass Any Bluer?
Today would have been Bill Monroe's birthday. This year marks 10 years after his passing away. Bill Monroe is the inventor of bluegrass music whcih you might have guessed from blog is very close to my heart.
Here are the lyrics to a song I have had in my head for the last few days. It's a Rhonda Vincent song dedicated to Bill Monroe from her Storm Still Rages cd.
chorus:
Is the grass any bluer on the other side?
Did it look like gold Kentucky when the gates swung open wide?
Bet the good Lord’s got you playin’ somewhere up there every night.
Is the grass any bluer on the other side?
You rolled out of Rosine, a dedicated man.
You drove those country back roads to a thousand one-night stands.
The music from your mandolin, spread like wildfire in the wind,
And echoed through the hollows and the hills, so tell me, Bill:
chorus
I heard you on the Opry when I was just a kid.
I tried my best to learn to sing and play the way you did.
Just like me, the day you died, the guitars and the fiddles cried.
The music ain’t the same without you, Bill; we miss you still.
chorus
Just like me, the day you died, the guitars and the fiddles cried.
The music ain’t the same without you, Bill; we miss you still.
chorus
